Russia-91 can't contain Finland's first line

2009 U18 2009 Five Nations Tourn.

In the third day of the U18 Five Nations tournaments, team Russia suffered their first defeat against a Finland that iced a very strong first line made up of Mikael Granlund, Toni Rajala and Teemu Pulkkinen, an unit that scored four goals - all with Granlund - in the 5-2 victory of their team. The Russian crease has been protected by Igor Bobkov, who didn't made such a good job as in the inaugural match against Sweden, when he finished the match with thirty-seven saves. Russia seemed to particularly struggle in the penalty killing as four goals by the opponents has been scored with the man advantage.

Team Russia started the match rather well, as a powerplay goal by the usual suspect Kirill Kabanov put them ahead by one goal after only three minutes of play, but then a natural hat-trick by Mikael Granlund turned the match in Finns favour. At the thirthy-third minute Joni Karjalainen put Finland up by three goals virtually ending the contest. A shoot out realized by Vladimir Tarasenko didn't change the things on the ice and in the last minutes of play Mikael Granlund scored again fixing the score to the final 5-2.
