Alexander Ovechkin (Washington Capitals) leaves a million with his Motherland

On Thursday morning (July 21) the Russian National team’s young forward Alexander Ovechkin participated in his last practice in Avangard’s lineup. After the team practice, the correspondent of “Gazeta.Ru” got a chance to ask Ovechkin a couple of questions regarding his decision to sign a contract with NHL’s Washington Capitals.

When did you make this decision?
A. Ovechkin:
I made the decision last night. I should tell you, it wasn’t easy. I was talking to my close relatives and friends until three in the morning, and, as a result, I selected Washington. I decided to attempt to play in the NHL.

Alexander, were you satisfied with all obligations that Avangard’s management proposed to you?
A. Ovechkin:
Yes. And, to be honest, I wasn’t expecting that Omsk is such great city. Also, I liked the warm atmosphere in the team. I appreciate Avangard’s coach and management backing me up in a tough moment. I appreciate team’s fans, who invigorated me all the time that I spent here.

Is there a possibility that you might come back to Omsk?
A. Ovechkin:
Yes, there is. If I don’t make Washington’s lineup, then I would come back to Omsk. I particularly asked my agent to include this term in my contract with the Capitals. According to this term, instead of going to Washington’s AHL farm-club, I would continue my career with Avangard Omsk.
